The purge of an epidemic of violent poaching has resulted in an “Island” of safety for Rhinos to exist in this barbaric daily slaughter. All now under 24 hour armed Anti-poaching teams to counter the trade in illegal rhino horn.
Surrounded by but a trickling stream moat in this powerful painting! composed of a cow and calf of Kruger, placed front and centre a bull of Hluhluwe, a bull of Pilanesberg and right flank a huge bull of the Swart-mfolozi.
A “Crash of White Rhinoceros” stand in formation, poor eyesight, egrets take flight, ears erect , heads held high, the faintest snap of a twig or rustle of grass. A poacher ?
I often wonder if any of these beautiful creatures that I have had the privilege to photography and paint …
